the last 10 minutes, but their comeback came too late to change the 
course of the tie as BVB progressed.</span></h2>

<span style="font-weight: normal;"> </span><span id="divAdnetKeyword"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Borussia Dortmund will contest the 2012-13 Champions League final after edging past Real Madrid despite a 2-0 defeat in their semi-final second leg at the Bernabeu on Tuesday. <br /><br />The
 Bundesliga side survived an early onslaught by Jose Mourinho's men to 
hold onto their 4-1 first-leg advantage for most of the game – and had 
several chances to make the aggregate score even more humiliating for 
the wasteful hosts.<br /><br />However, goals from Karim Benzema and Sergio 
Ramos in the last 10 minutes suddenly set up the most frantic of 
finishes, but Dortmund hung on to clinch their first final berth since 
1997, when they defeated Juventus 3-1 to win the trophy.<br /><br />Angel Di
 Maria, benched for the first leg, started for the hosts, while 
Cristiano Ronaldo also returned after he was rested with a thigh 
complaint for the Madrid derby victory over the weekend.<br /><br />Dortmund’s
 line-up picked itself, with Jurgen Klopp restoring the likes of Marco 
Reus and Ilkay Gundogan after resting his regulars during Saturday’s 
Bundesliga win over Fortuna Dusseldorf.<br /><br />Mourinho’s men knew the 
magnitude of the task at hand, and their start to the match was suitably
 relentless. Gonzalo Higuain could have opened the scoring four minutes 
in, but his shot from Mesut Ozil’s pass was right at Roman Weidenfeller.<br /><br />Madrid
 sent a series of warnings Dortmund’s way, but the Germans showed a 
glimpse of what they were capable of when Gundogan’s clip found Robert 
Lewandowski completely unmarked for a half-volley right at Diego Lopez.<br /><br />However,
 Ronaldo immediately mirrored the chance at the other end, forcing 
Weidenfeller into a close range block, before Mesut Ozil somehow dragged
 wide when put clean through.<br /><br />The visitors were then handed a 
huge blow just before the quarter hour mark, when Mario Gotze limped off
 clutching his hamstring and was replaced by Kevin Grosskreutz.<br /><br />There
 was enough action in the first 15 minutes to fill an entire half of 
football, but after weathering the initial storm, Dortmund regained 
their composure and slowed things down – exactly what Madrid did not 
want.<br /><br />In fact, the remainder of the half was rather monotonous by comparison, leaving Mourinho with plenty to ponder over the break.<br /><br />But
 Madrid’s half-time plans were almost wrecked minutes after the restart,
 had Lewandowski kept his cool when Grosskreutz cleverly found him 
unmarked inside the box, instead of blasting the ball into orbit.<br /><br />The
 Pole nearly made instant amends when latching onto Reus’ slipped pass, 
sprinting in behind and lashing at goal, but the ball cannoned off the 
underside of the bar.<br /><br />There was only one side that looked like 
scoring and it was not the team that needed three goals to progress. The
 quietly impressive Reus teed up Gundogan with a virtually open goal, 
but somehow, Lopez recovered to make an unbelievable save.<br /><br />Lewandowski
 missed from eight yards before Madrid finally showed signs of life in 
the second half, but true to form, Di Maria stroked wide of the far post
 from just inside the box, before Ronaldo poked over from a similarly 
promising position.<br /><br />But substitute Benzema would
 give the hosts a glimmer of hope with seven minutes remaining, 
side-footing in from close range after Kaka teed up Ozil for the cross 
from the right.<br /><br />And it got even better for the Spanish side when Ramos smashed the ball home from Benzema's layoff with two minutes plus stoppage time left in the game.<br /><br />But
 with the home fans roaring them on, Madrid could not go that last step 
further as Dortmund survived a few late scares to edge over the finish 
line.<br /><br />Now the only question that remains is whether Wembley will 
be an all-German affair, with Bayern Munich well on their way to taking 
the Bundesliga’s most high-profile rivalry onto the biggest stage of 
them all.</span></span></h2>

TELECOMMUNICATIONS regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission,
 has ordered MTN Nigeria to collapse the rates for its on-net and 
off-net voice services, which it said has a 300 per cent differential 
with effect from tomorrow, May 1.<br />
<br />

The NCC, in a report titled, ‘Determination of dominance in selected 
communications markets in Nigeria,” signed by Mr. Eugene Juwah, 
Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, said it plans to make a determination of 
pricing principle to address the rates charged for on-net and off-net 
voice calls for all other operators, to manage dominance in the market.<br />
<br />

The NCC also disclosed that competition in the Nigerian mobile voice 
market is not highly competitive, and using what it called the HHI, said
 MTN with 44 percent of the market share has emerged the dominant 
operator in the mobile voice segment.<br />
<br />

According to Juwah, an industry review showed phone calls between MTN
 customers cost three times lower than calls to other networks, 
indicative of the likely establishment of a calling club for MTN 
subscribers.<br />
<br />

Juwah said, “As a result of the determination outlined above, the 
Commission has resolved to immediately enforce and implement accounting 
separation on the dominant operator; ensure that the differential 
between the on-net and off-net retail tariffs will immediately 
collapsed, while the tariff for on-net and off-net will be the same and 
subject to periodic review.<br />

“The Commission may require the dominant operator to submit details 
on specific aspects of its operations from time as the need arises.”<br />

NO fewer than 12 persons killed yesterday in the heart of Awka, 
Anambra State when a tanker carrying palm kernel oil lost its brakes and
 rammed into Bus Park on the foot of the pedestrian cross at the popular
 UNIZIK junction in the town.

Several people who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed 
to various hospitals in the Anambra State capital for treatment.<br />

 expressway, lost control as it was descending the UNIZIK slope and hit a
 bus loaded with passengers and then dragged the same bus into the very 
busy motor park where it damaged about seven other buses.<br />

Among those who either lost their lives or sustained injuries were drivers, motor park operators and recharge card sellers.<br />
<br />

The tanker, which somersaulted severally as it was hitting other 
vehicles, had its body cut into pieces and its contents spilled along 
the road and in the motor park.<br />

The impact of the summersault of the tanker adversely affected the 
beams of the pedestrian bridge, thus making part of the bridge to lose 
its alignment.<br />
<br />

The accident, which happened at the time offices had closed for the 
day, caused an excruciating traffic jam on the road as many people 
stopped at the scene.<br />
<br />

Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, the Nigerian Army, 
the Police and other good spirited people volunteered their vehicles for
 conveying the wounded persons to the hospital.<br />

A similar accident on the same spot last year claimed five lives, but
 the difference was that the one of last year did not get to the motor 
park.<br />
<br />

Sympathizers at the scene of the accident yesterday said there is 
need to relocate the various motor parks which have their loading bays 
beside the expressway to avoid such accidents in future.<br />

 <b>On Thursday a ghastly motor accident occurred along Owerri, Port 
Harcourt express road after the Army Barracks in Obinze, just a few 
meters after the entrance of Arab Contractors Nig Ltd, involving a 
petrol tanker and a bus carrying full load of passengers</b>..<br />

Three passengers died on the spot including the driver, two died later 
at the hospital. As if that was not enough, on Friday a Sienna coming 
from Owerri and heading to Imo state Polytechnic Ohaji somersaulted 
severally on the same spot. The car was seriously damaged but thankfully
 the three occupants came out alive with praises to God.<br />

Today 
Tuesday, a man was caught on that same spot with charms doing what was 
best known to him in a language most people didn’t understand. He was 
promptly surrounded by the youths of Ohaji. The man was taken to the Eze
 who handed him over to the police.<br />
<br />
Before this, the man who 
could only speaks hausa language mentioned that he had links in the 
community and named a man well known to the youths. The youths swung 
into action and went in search of the man and found him hiding in the 
ceiling of his house.<br />
<br />
They beat him up, but as soon as he had a 
little chance, he escaped into a nearby bushes. The hausa speaking juju 
man also mentioned that he had customers that visited him at night, 
dressed in suits and were carrying a briefcase. <br />

<b>Youths from Delta state have stormed 
the National Assembly in Abuja to protest government sale of oil mining 
licenses (OML) in their communities.</b><br />
<b><br />
Emmanuel
 Uti, the legal adviser of the group, told Daily Trust that the sales of
 the licenses are fraudulent and they want the government to stop it 
immediately.<br />
<br />
The protesting group, earlier thought to be 
militants, comprises <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD10">youth leaders</span> from Itsekiri, Ijaw, Ndokwa, Isoko 
and Uhrobos ethnic groups in Delta State.</b><br />
<b><br />
The protesters came in 
about 10 buses belonging to the Delta state <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD3">transport</span> authority and 
blocked the entrance to the National Assembly, causing heavy traffic 
build up.</b><b> </b><br />

    Bayern Munich took a massive step towards the Champions League final with an incredible 4-0 thrashing of Barcelona in the first leg of their last-four clash at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight: normal;">On the same day that they stunned the football world by capturing Mario Gotze from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund, the Bavarian giants again reminded everyone that they are a force to be reckoned with by playing the toothless <em>Blaugrana</em> off the pitch.<br /><br />Thomas
 Muller opened the scoring with a close-range header, and put the second
 on a plate for Mario Gomez minutes into the second half.<br /><br />Muller 
would controversially play a role in Arjen Robben's goal after appearing
 to foul Jordi Alba off the ball, before tapping in the fourth himself 
with eight minutes remaining to round off the biggest-ever margin of 
victory in a Champions League semi-final.<br />
</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">Mario Gomez replaced the suspended Mario Mandzukic up front for the 
hosts, while for the visitors, Marc Bartra partnered Gerard Pique in 
defence with Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano injured.</span><br />

</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">Bayern could have been ahead as early as the fourth minute. </span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">Robben 
exchanged passes with Gomez, and it took the outstretched legs of Victor
 Valdes to deny the Dutch winger from point-blank range.</span><br />

</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">Barca were winning the possession battle, but it was the Bavarian 
side who controlled the opening exchanges. Javi Martinez’s tumble in the
 box was correctly ignored by the referee, who was forced into a bigger

 was an isolated scare from the blunted Catalans, and with 25 minutes on
 the clock, Bayern made their superiority count.</span><br />

poking away Dani Alves’ cross at full stretch from the unmarked Lionel

into Messi, and he was quickly followed into the book by Bartra and 
Martinez for challenges on Muller and Andres Iniesta either side of the

</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">But any hopes that Barca had for the half-time break to revitalize 
them were dashed only four minutes after the restart, when Bayern 
exposed their soft centre once again to go two goals ahead.</span><br />

</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">Just like the first goal, Robben’s delivery was met by a Bayern head, with Muller guiding the ball towards the goal line, where Gomez was waiting to gleefully bundle the ball home, albeit from an unnoticed offside position.</span><br />

</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">The Bundesliga side were simply dominating, and the match threatened 
to get ugly very fast for Barca had Muller and Franck Ribery been more 
accurate when presented with the chance to pick their spot from great

</span><span style="font-weight: normal;">But the third goal was always on the cards, and it duly arrived with 
17 minutes remaining, albeit in contentious circumstances. Muller’s

down the left ended with a low cross into the six-yard area, where Muller
 was waiting to turn into the back of the net to leave the second leg at

Spanish lifeguards on Monday saved 32 African immigrants trying to 
cross the sea from Morocco to Spain in flimsy vessels, authorities said.<br />
<br />
A source in the lifeguard told AFP that Spanish rescuers hauled 32 
migrants, of which all but one were men, from four vessels and took them
 to Tarifa on the southern tip of Spain.<br />
<br />

The source said there were no deaths or serious injuries among those 
rescued. Many migrants have died on the crossing over recent years.<br />
<br />

“Those rescued by Spain are apparently in good health and are on land receiving medical attention,” the source said.<br />
<br />

The source said Moroccan lifeguards had rescued other migrants on Monday and taken them to the Moroccan side of the strait.<br />
<br />

Thousands of Africans try to cross the narrow strait from Morocco to 
Spain each year in inflatable toy dinghies or other makeshift boats.<br />
<br />

The number of such migrants who reached Spanish shores by boat last 
year totalled 3,804, according to the Spanish interior ministry.(AFP)

Two weeks ago, many families mourned, following the death of no fewer
 than 80 people, including 57 passengers of a commercial luxury bus, 
which collided with a fuel tanker in Ugbogui, on the Benin-Lagos 
expressway and burst into flames. The victims were burnt beyond 
recognition and were given mass burial last week. However, today the 
family of Kenneth Chinedu Nwaokoro, a 24-year-old final year student of 
Information Technology of Caritas University, Enugu, who survived the 
accident, is rejoicing.<br />
<br />

This lucky young man, from Imo State, was returning to Enugu to 
complete his final year project, after visiting his brother in Lagos. He
 is currently on admission at the Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu. Narrating
 what happened and how he survived, Nwaokoro told Saturday Sun: “When we
 left the park to embark on the journey, our bus was half filled; so the
 driver picked passengers along the road until the bus was filled, 
except for the seat beside me, which I did not allow anybody to occupy.<br />
<br />

The excuse I gave was that somebody was sitting there beside because I
 didn’t want disturbance and more so it was illegal for them to pick 
passengers along the road. The journey was smooth, so I slept off. “I 
was sleeping when the accident happened. It was the sound of the 
collision that woke me up. I woke up to see the driver struggling with 
the steering to manoeuvre the bus, but everywhere was already on fire 
immediately the bus collided with the tanker and there was commotion.”<br />
<br />

The struggle to escape On how the passengers struggled to escape from
 impending death, Nwaokoro said: “People where shouting and running 
towards the entrance, but the door was locked. The bus was one of The 
Young’s new buses. There was fire everywhere and people were getting 
burnt. At first, I was confused, but I convinced myself that I would 
survive. I opened the window and jumped out.<br />
<br />

The fire burnt my back and face. On landing, I ran straight to a 
local hospital close to the scene of the accident, where I had to part 
with N2, 000 before they gave me first aid. I then contacted my younger 
brother, who came and took me to Enugu.” Asked if there were other 
passengers who escaped through the window with him, he said: “I noticed 
that a guy jumped after me, but he was seriously burnt.<br />
<br />

I couldn’t wait to check him because I was burnt too and my hands 
were fractured.” How he bought the bus ticket Nwaokoro revealed that his
 name was not on the manifest of the bus because his younger sister 
bought the ticket for him. According to him, the sister’s name was 
written on the manifest (seat 23) because when it was her turn to pay 
for the ticket, the official of the transport company asked for her name
 and quickly wrote it on the ticket before verifying if she was the one 
travelling.<br />
<br />
At the head office, the elder Nwaokoro said when he told the manager 
that his younger brother survived the accident, he expressed surprise, 
saying they did not know anybody survived. “When I told the manager 
about my brother’s survival, he said they didn’t know that somebody 
survived it. He told us to come back in a week or two weeks’ time to 
fill insurance form and other relevant documents for compensation.”

Catholic Church Bombing: Kabiru Sokoto pleads not guilty, remanded in Prison

 alleged mastermind of the Christmas day bomb explosion that killed 
about 44 persons and wounded 75 other worshippers at St. Theresa’s 
Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, in 2011, Kabiru Umar, a.k.a 
Kabiru Sokoto, in prison custody.

Sokoto was remanded shortly after he pleaded not guilty to an amended
 three-count criminal charge preferred against him by the Federal 
Government, which attracts life imprisonment on conviction. His counsel,
 Mr Adamu Ibrahim, made an oral application for his bail.<br />

The alleged kingpin of the Boko Haram Islamic sect was initially 
docked before the high court on May 20, but he could not take his plea 
owing to his inability to secure the services of a lawyer.<br />
Aside allegation that the accused person trained over 500 men on how 
to manufacture and detonate Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, the 
Federal Government, maintained that he had prior knowledge of the sect’s
 plan to bomb the said St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the fateful day, 
but failed to disclose the information to any law enforcement officer as
 soon as reasonably practicable.<br />
The prosecution said that the accused person was alleged to have 
between 2007 and 2012, at Mabira Sokoto, Sokoto State, facilitated the 
commission of terrorist acts, including planting bombs at the Police 
headquarters and some government organizations in the state.<br />
The Federal Government told the court that the accused person set up his terrorist training camp at Abaji, a suburb of Abuja.<br />

begged the  court to release him on bail pending the determination of

Sokoto had been in custody since February 10, 2012 when he was 
re-arrested by a combined team of officers from the Department of State 
Service, DSS, and soldiers.<br />
Turning down his bail request, the presiding judge, Justice 
Adetokunbo Ademola ordered him to file a formal application,  and 
directed all the parties to ensure that they filed and exchanged briefs 
before April 26.<br />
Ademola, however, granted the accused person’s plea to be transferred from DSS custody to the prison.<br />
Hearing on the case was adjourned to May 2 and 9.<br />

<b>SENATE President, David Mark, said yesterday, that to douse tension 
in the country, agitation or feeling of marginalization by some minority
 groups in the country, zoning or rotation of top political offices 
should be inserted in the constitution</b>.<br />
<br />
This came on a day the House of Representatives made public the much 
expected Constitution Review Peoples Public Sessions Report, which 
highlighted Nigerians’ clamour for state creation, though with divergent
 views on number of states to be created.<br />
<br />

The report also highlighted local government autonomy, rejected state
 police, asked for abolition of immunity clause, unicameral legislature,
 among others, even as Nigerians voted that State Independent Electoral 
Commissions, SIECS, should be scrapped and that governors should have no
 powers over state police commissioners.<br />
<br />

Senator Mark, who spoke when he received a delegation of traditional 
rulers, under the aegis of Anioma Congress from Delta State, led by the 
Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien, said the creation of additional 
states to deserving areas would be a major concern as the 1999 
constitution was being reviewed, stressing that the move would help 
facilitate development of all nooks and crannies of the country.<br />

He said: “Zoning or rotation of top political offices such as governor of a state should be inserted into the constitution”.<br />
<br />

He said if the country must get it right, the present constitutional 
amendment must take into cognizance the anxieties, fears, agitation and 
future of minority groups to provide what he called the needed elixir 
for peace, unity and security under a united Nigerian federation.<br />
<br />

Senator Mark said: “I strongly believe that we truly need to create 
more states to meet the needs of agitators, bring a sense of belonging 
to the people, promote healthy competition among the federating states, 
as well as guaranteeing peace and security in the land.”<br />
<br />

He pointed out that a situation where some sections of a state were 
permanently confined to playing second fiddle role was not good for 
harmonious co-existence among the people.<br />
<br />

He added: “For peace, security and development to thrive, justice, 
fairness and equity must be the yardstick for relating between and among
 the cohabiting groups”.<br />

<span id="news_content">The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) may call off
 its three-month-old hit on Friday, the union's Deputy National 
President, Mr Tijjani Wakil, has said.<br />
 <br />
 Wakil notified the report bureau of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja
 that calling off the strike would be in the aftermath of discussions 
with stakeholders.<br />
 <br />
 NAN recognises that the union, which members are employees of research 
institutes' over the country, had vowed not to call off the hit until 
its constituents' demands were fully-contacted.<br />
 <br />
 Wakil said the amalgamation contacted with the Minister of Labour and 
Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, on Tuesday and was satisfied with the 
discussions.<br />
 The minister of Labour and Productivity yesterday  said President Goodluck Jonathan had accepted the memo on all their demands.</span><br />

A German woman who struggled with facial hair for nearly two decades 
said she finally feels sexy, now that she’s ditched the clippers and let
 her beard grow.<br />

“I feel more confident and I know myself better now than when I was 
younger,” the 49-year-old mom, identified only as Mariam, told the British talk show, “This Morning.”<br />

Mariam explained to hosts <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD7">Holly Willoughby</span> and Phillip Schofield she began growing facial hair 28 years ago, after the birth of her son.<br />

She tried electrolysis <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD9">three times</span>, but the hair always grew back.<br />

After years of using <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD1">tweezers</span> to disguise <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD8">the growing</span> goatee, Mariam gave up in August 2008.<br />

“It was more curiosity, like what will happen with me if I let it grow,” she said. “Like how it will <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD2">make me</span> feel.”<br />

Now Mariam only trims her beard for maintenance. She’s the “Bearded 
Lady” in a traveling circus and writes about her experiences on a blog.<br />

Despite some nasty comments and criticism — even Mariam’s own mother 
questioned her decision to keep the beard— she discovered a newfound 
confidence. After <span class="IL_AD" id="IL_AD4">being single</span> for a decade, she’s also looking for love.<br />

“I think I’m more ready to have a relationship,” Mariam said. <br />
