<br />
Police say 14 more women have come forward accusing a doctor in Charlotte of sexual assault. The doctor was arrested on sexual offense charges related to two patients and ordered not to practice medicine in late January, according to police and documents filed with NC Medical Board.<br />
<br />
Dr. Fidelis I. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan, 52, was arrested on January 30, on two counts of second-degree sexual offense and three counts of sexual battery and given a $57,500 bond.<br />
<br />
On January 2, a woman told police that she went to a medical facility in the 1800-block of Milton Road for a medical examination. During that exam, the victim said, Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan sexually assaulted her.<br />
<br />
Then on January 14, a second woman reported that she was also sexually assaulted by Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan at a medical facility in the 700-block of West Sugar Creek Road.<br />
<br />
Police said on Feb. 12 that 14 more woman had come forward claiming they were victimized by Uwensuyi-Edosomwan. They say the allegations are being reviewed by detectives to determine if there were any criminal acts committed.<br />
<br />
**WARNING: THE FOLLOWING DETAILS MAY BE TOO GRAPHIC FOR SOME READERS**<br />
<br />
According to the arrest warrants, Uwensuyi-Edosomwan "Unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did engage in sex offense with [Victim 1] by force and against that Victim's will" on January 2. The warrants state the same for the second victim on January 14.<br />
<br />
The warrants go on to state that Uwensuyi-Edosomwan "unlawfully and willfully for the purpose of sexual arousal and sexual gratification engage in sexual contact, by pushing his erect joystick onto the [second] victim's hand during a medical examination by force and against the will of the other person."<br />
<br />
The warrants state that Uwensuyi-Edosomwan also "rubbed the [second] victim's vagina over her pants with his fingers after a medical examination" and "lifted the [second] victim's shirt and bra and then rubbed her bosom during a medical exam without the victim's consent."<br />
<br />
WBTV is not releasing the victims' names.<br />
<br />
"Both victims reported within the first 24 hours that it occurred," investigators said during a press conference Tuesday.<br />
<br />
They also said the alleged victims were not sedated during the incidents.<br />
<br />
“We had information that lead us to investigating him for sexually assaulting two of his patients. The biggest thing for us in this case is that although we made the arrest on the two cases we know about - we're not sure if there is any other incidents that he may have been involved in,” said Captain Cecil Brisbon. "That's our biggest concern. Anytime you have situation like this, you want to make sure that someone out there who's committing these type of acts, that they're held accountable."<br />
<br />
The NC Medical Board documents note that Uwensuyi-Edosomwan "vehemently denies" all of the charges.<br />
<br />
Uwensuyi-Edosomwan admits "that the conduct alleged in the criminal charges, if true, would constitute unprofessional conduct," according to the documents. The documents say, if true, the incident would be enough to suspend or revoke his medical license.<br />
<br />
WBTV reached out to Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan, but he would not comment.<br />
<br />
One of his patients, who WBTV is only identifying as "Victoria," said she never had any problems with Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan. "He's a good guy," she said. "Never had any problems with him. Never. Never."<br />
<br />
Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan was ordered not to practice medicine "until such time as he is given permission to do so by the Board President." The documents state the order was part of an "interim non-practice agreement."<br />
<br />
That order came down from NC Medical Board President Cheryl Walker-McGill on February 4.<br />
<br />
According to the NC Medical Board, Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan was issued a license in March 1996 and practiced medicine in Charlotte, with his primary practice being internal medicine.<br />
<br />
Uwensuyi-Edosomwan has a practice called Americare Health, which is located along the 1800-block of Milton Road. According to carolinashealthcare.org, he also worked at AmeriCare Health Family Medical Center on West Sugar Creek Road.<br />
<br />
According to Carolinas HealthCare System Kevin McCarthy, Uwensuyi-Edosomwan has "never been employed by Carolinas HealthCare System."<br />
<br />
According to the NC Medical Board, he has admission privileges at Carolinas Medical Center-Union, but is not employed as a physician there. He has an affiliate membership at CMC-Union which means he does not have clinical privileges and is not able to treat patients or write orders.<br />
<br />
He has previously been given medical licenses in South Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia and Nigeria.<br />
<br />
According to documents filed with the medical board, Uwensuyi-Edosomwan was reviewed after a March 2010 incident where he diagnosed a child with a hernia, bladder infection, ear infection, sinus infection, blood in the urine and bronchitis.<br />
<br />
The case was reviewed after the child's mother asked for documents to seek a second opinion in the case. The board reviewed the case and did not agree with the findings or the tests that Uwensuyi-Edosomwan ordered on the child.<br />
<br />
Another document from 2010 shows that the medical board reviewed several years' worth of records after concerns over his patient care and testing.<br />
<br />
While the board ruled out concerns over the care he was providing patients, it did note that his handwriting in the records was "illegible" and he was ordered to improve the legibility of his records.<br />
<br />
Documents show that over a two-year period, the board did not see any improvement, but said Uwensuyi-Edosomwan was implementing a new electronic medical record system which would eliminate the need for handwritten medical records.<br />
<br />
He was reprimanded in the incident.<br />
<br />
He was also ordered to submit himself for a professional assessment in August 2012.<br />
<br />
According to court documents, Uwensuyi-Edosomwan lives in Waxhaw.<br />
<br />
Anyone with information about the incidents or Dr. Uwensuyi-Edosomwan is asked to call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.

Speaking at an audience with the Foreign Ministers of Germany and France, who called on him at the Presidential Villa, President Jonathan restated the Federal Government’s displeasure over the stigmatization of Nigerians by some countries after the Ebola virus entered Nigeria in July through a Liberian diplomat.<br />
<br />
The President maintained that there was never any justifiable basis for the stigmatization of Nigerians since Ebola was rapidly contained in the country and never attained epidemic levels.<br />
<br />
He told the French Foreign Minister, Mr. Laurent Fabius and the German Foreign Minister, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier that Nigeria will remain fully vigilant to prevent the re-entry of the virus because the Federal Government recognizes that the country will remain at risk as long as Ebola is active in other West African countries or any other part of the world.<br />
<br />
Jonathan assured that Nigeria will cooperate fully with other concerned nations to stop the current outbreak of Ebola in West Africa as quickly as possible.<br />
<br />
The Ministers told the President that they were in Nigeria to seek further cooperation with the Federal Government in the growing global effort to contain the current outbreak and continuing spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.<br />
<br />
They praised Nigeria’s successful containment of the virus and expressed the desire of France, Germany and the European Union to collaborate more with Nigeria in helping other West African countries where the virus still remains active.<br />

<br /><br />Stunned by the entrance of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, into America, the United States’ Center for Disease Control and Prevention has despatched its personnel to study how Nigeria contained the killer disease.<br />HEALTH PERSONNEL IN PROTECTIVE KITS AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY (12/8/14).<br />HEALTH PERSONNEL IN PROTECTIVE KITS AT THE NATIONAL HOSPITAL IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY<div>
<br />The US reported on Tuesday that it has discovered a case of EVD in Dallas, Texas, but its health officials said “the crisis is under control and the public has nothing to fear.”<br />A statement released by US CDC Director Tom Frieden said “it’s clear the nation needs a quick and thorough response to its first Ebola patient”</div>
<div>
<br />He said although Nigeria was not completely out of the woods, “their extensive response to a single case of Ebola shows that control is possible with rapid, focused interventions.” Apart from Nigeria, the US will also visit Senegal to study its model.</div>
<div>
<br />Frieden said “the best practices in Nigeria and Senegal suggest the U.S. should monitor all individuals who may have been exposed to Ebola and establish a dedicated management and response system.”</div>
<div>
<br />Senegal has had no new reported cases of Ebola since Sept. 18 while Nigeria has not reported new ones since August 31,<br />US health officials are expected in Nigeria which it claimed had the best practices in combating Ebola Virus disease which entered into Nigeria through Liberian born American citizen Mr. Patrick Sawyer whose index case was reported on July 20, 2014. Nigeria is expected to officially announce today that the remaining two potential Ebola patients will exit the 21-day observation period.<br />How Nigeria stopped the spread of Ebola.</div>
<div>
<br />According to US CDC, “Nigeria’s first reported case of Ebola surfaced July 20, when Patrick Sawyer landed in Lagos from Liberia and exposed 72 other passengers to the virus. Nigeria’s Health officials quickly issued notifications and tracked everybody who may have been in contact with Sawyer.<br />“Nigeria also established an Ebola Incident Management Center to handle the potential outbreak and developed a staffing plan that executed a social mobilization strategy that reached more than 26,000 households of people living around the contacts of Ebola patients,”</div>
<div>
<br />The deadly virus has killed more than 3,000 people in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia in the largest outbreak ever recorded.<br />How Senegal contained Ebola<br />Senegal confirmed its first Ebola case Aug. 29 after a man, travelling from Guinea on Aug. 14, took ill and showed symptoms of the disease. This prompted a quick response, including an experienced and trained staff that was prepared to contain the Ebola outbreak. The procedure led to the identification of 67 contacts who were placed under quarantine, monitored for 21 days and showed no symptoms of Ebola. Panic in America</div>
<div>
<br />The man who imported Ebola into US was found to have travelled to Liberia without informing the authorities and did not disclose the nature of his ailment to the nurse that attended to him. Reports from Texas yesterday said that the Nurse who attended to the man has also taken ill for Ebola in Texas.</div>
<div>
<br />A spokesman for Texas Health Presbyterian said the patient had walked into a Dallas emergency room on September 26, without knowing that he contacted the deadly virus and left after he was treated. He then returned to the facility on September 28 where it was determined he likely had Ebola and was isolated. He tested positive Tuesday, health officials said.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Following the lapse on the part of the hospital officials, questions are being asked amid panic across the country. The CDC has thus advised that all medical facilities should ask for patients with symptoms consistent with Ebola for their travel history.</div>

<b><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">…Claims men from deceased’s village raped his wife</span></b><br />
Did 32-year-old Chinedu Nweke kill 45-year-old Philomina Nwega, a
native of Ebuku Ndieze Amudda in Umuzeoka village, Ezza North Local
Government Area, Ebonyi State, to avenge the serial rape of his wife by
men in the murdered woman’s village, as he claims? That is the big
question that the police in Ebonyi State are scratching their heads to
unravel.<br />
The unimaginable and horrible happened on September 6, 2014 in
Umuzeoka village in Ezza North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, the
Commissioner of Police for the State, Maigari Dikko disclosed to this
reporter.<br />
<script type="text/javascript">

</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.addynamo.net/ad/js/deliverAds.js"></script>
Recounting the bizarre tale, Nweke, a farmer, said men from the
village had raped his wife severally, alleging that the repeated vicious
 act led to a miscarriage.<br />
His words: “I am a farmer. Villagers raped my wife severally. And it
made my wife to have miscarriage anytime she was pregnant. I never
complained about this problem to the police. It was on September 6, 2014
 in the evening that I saw a woman coming from the farm. I waylaid her
and I used my cutlass to kill her. I cut off her head which I dumped
alongside her lifeless body into the Ogbor stream. I cut her head into
pieces and threw them into the stream. It was at Umezeoka that the
people raped my wife and that was where I killed the woman. Each time my
 wife was raped I bought drugs for her but I didn’t report the incident
to anybody, not even to the village head or the traditional ruler.”<br />
When a report was made to the police about the death of the woman, a
search was conducted by a combined team of the police and the local
vigilance group in Achiagu, Ezza North LGA, where the suspect, Nweke,
was arrested with a blood-stained machete and clothes on September 7,
2014.<br />
Nweke confessed to the police that he killed the woman and dumped her corpse in the stream along with the head.<br />
Dikko said the headless body was later recovered and taken to the
mortuary of the Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation
Department, Mrs Justina Ogbodo also told <i>Sunday Sun </i>that detectives had recovered the machete allegedly used by Nweke to kill the woman.<br />
ACP Ogbodo said the command was still finding it difficult to recover
 the severed head, which Nweke claimed to have thrown into the stream.<br />
While the police continue with the interrogation of the suspect, the
husband of the deceased, Mr. Bartholomew Nwega said his primary
headache is seeing the severed head of his late wife recovered so that
she could be given honourable burial. In a broken voice that belied his
grief, he said: “I am pleading with the police to help me recover the
head of my dead wife.”

No fewer than 56 suspected Boko Haram fighters hiding in the midst of livestocks have been arrested in Borno State, a security source said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The source said the first batch of the Boko Haram men totaling 40, were intercepted by military personnel in Biu, south of Borno on Tuesday afternoon.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“They were hiding  in a truck carrying rams, sheep and goats. The Boko Haram men hide under a platform which hold the goats, rams and sheep carefully arranged in the truck,” the source who would not want to be named, said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
While the military troops and residents of Biu were still celebrating the success recorded by the watchful soldiers, another batch of Boko Haram men were caught again.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“We’ve arrested another 16 suspects at about 5pm. They confessed they are Boko Haram planning to sneak into Biu for attack,” another military source said. He explained that the first suspects were arrested at about 3pm.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
For Oliver Udeh and his family, Wednesday, September 17, 2014, was like any other day. There was no premonition to suggest that a calamity of immeasurable proportion was about to befall the family of eight, made up of husband, wife and six children, consisting of four boys and two girls.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
However, in the evening of that day, the unexpected happened. Their co-tenant, a 50-year old man, identified as Mike Okeze from Abia State, reportedly got hold of a machete and descended on Oliver’s children, hacking them down one after the other.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
At the end of the attack, two of the children, Favour, three, and Destiny, nine months, both boys, laid dead. Two others, Gift, seven, and Goodness, five, had their nose and wrist, respectively cut off by the rampaging farmer, who later fled into a bush.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Narrating the tragedy that befell him, 30-year-old Oliver Udeh from Nsukka in Enugu State, who farms at Okha II community, along Benin – Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, said he was on a journey when a call came through that one man, called Mike Okeze, had killed two of his children and their bodies had been deposited at Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin, while the other two, who sustained serious injuries were at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“He wanted to kill my wife but my wife escaped to go and call neigbours. Before they came, Mike had fled into the bush. We are still looking for him,” he said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“I did not have any quarrel with the man. But I learnt he complained that my children obstructed his way. My wife told me that he then proceeded to push one of them down. I think he didn’t like seeing my children. Because I traveled, he then had the opportunity to attack them and killed two,” Udeh said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
He is, therefore, asking government to give him justice in the matter and to assist him to settle the hospital bills of the other two, both of them girls, who are still receiving medical care in hospital, as he barely survives on subsistence farming.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In an encounter with <i style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Daily Sun, </i>his wife, Chinyere, gave a blow by blow accountof how account of what transpired on the fateful day.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
According to her: “Three days ago, my children were playing within the compound when our neigbour arrived and began to question why they ran past the front of his room. He then used a wheelbarrow to block the way.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“I went to beg him to forgive the children but he said my husband and I were sending them to insult him. In a short while, he pounced on me and held me by the neck. Next, he seized a cutlass and pursued me, but I ran for my life.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“When he could not keep pace with me, he returned to a spot in the compound and sat down. Thinking that his anger had simmered down, I went to the kitchen to take care of my cooking but I didn’t know he had locked the doors, with my children inside. A little while later, I heard the children, screaming for help and there was no way I could get in. All my six children were inside at that time. While I was outside, he was busy dealing the children machete blows.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“While that encounter lasted, he killed two while the two grownups escaped though the window. He succeeded in killing my baby of nine months and the other, who was three years old. The dead were both boys,” she said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
She then pleaded for government assistance, saying: “I want government to find the man and kill him just as he killed my children; we are a poor family.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Giving an insight into what led to the dastard act, she said: “He had a quarrel with my husband three years ago. What caused the quarrel was that he brought a chameleon from the farm and smoked it in my kitchen. My husband warned him about it, saying a chameleon was dangerous. So, my husband had to throw it away. Three days later, my children fell sick. Since then, he has been chasing my children around but we didn’t know he haboured such evil intention.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“When I realised that he was killing the children, I struggled to break into the room. But by the time I succeeded, part of the horror I saw was that he had sliced my baby’s throat; he had also cut my other son’s head. He cut off my girl’s wrist and sliced the girl’s nose. Thereafter, he escaped through the window and fled into the bush.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“We need help now. We don’t even have any money to pay for the x-ray or operation on the rest of the children, who are alive,” she said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
At the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, doctors described the condition of the two children on admission as “stable but critical.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 25.9980010986328px; margin-bottom: 1.857em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Noble Uwoh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said police were hunting for the fleeing murderer and would bring him to justice.<b style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></b></div>
